RAN uses a whitelist approach, which blocks all sites except the few in the whitelist.
For example:
Let’s assume whitepages.com is the only site in the list. Then when someone goes to facebook.com it says it is blocked. (Any site that is not whitepages.com would also be blocked)
An added blessing to this approach is that it also blocks Phishing sites (a site masquerading as another site to get your secure info), malware (software designed to hurt or steal your info), ads, and any other possible variations. These are difficult to block using a non-whitelist approach, called a blacklist. A blacklist only blocks the sites in the list. New malicious sites popup all the time and if they aren’t listed in the blacklist it won’t block it.
